About Backup Power Guide

Backup Power Guide is an independent buyer's guide to home standby generators — permanent, automatic backup power systems that keep your whole house running when the grid goes down. We publish detailed comparisons, kW sizing calculators, and installation cost breakdowns so you can buy the right generator the first time.

How we research

We compile manufacturer specifications, professional reviews, and owner feedback, then cross-check claims (like kW ratings, fuel derates, and warranty terms) across multiple sources. Specs and prices change, so we mark them as approximate and always recommend verifying on the retailer page before buying. The full process, including how our 10-point scores work, is on ourhow we research page.

How we make money

Backup Power Guide participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click a product link and buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This funds our research and free calculator tools. Commissions never decide which products we recommend or how they rank.
